Before Niko was born in 2016, I was a sports fan; not the biggest and flashiest, but a fan in general. I was a frequent viewer of ESPN, and that is how I know who Jemele Hill is.
I didn’t know about her controversial Tweets that got her in trouble a few times,
I didn’t know about how tough childhood.
I didn’t know about her mother as a drug addict.
I didn’t know about the violent (verbally, physically, and sexually) men in her life, her mother’s life, and her grandmother’s life.
I didn’t know about her newspaper journalism career that helped her get to ESPN.
This book explains it all, and I enjoyed it. I did skip some of the parts where she explains in a bit more detail about her Tweets and Trump.
I like reading about strong black females who have overcome so much and who eventually become role models for everybody.
