I have tried a few times to read this book in the past and just couldn’t get past the first chapter. A few weeks ago, on Netgalley, I saw he has a new book coming out in 2024, and being a member of Netgalley, I was able to get a copy of it. I read the first few pages of the new one and decided to stop and try to read his first one again.
Well, this time, I was successful in completing the whole book.
All I knew about him was he is a comedian. I had no clue about his life. His parents were both deaf, and he lived with his mom in Oakland. When he visited his dad in New York, he was a Hasidic Jew!
He struggled with drugs and alcohol and did a lot of stupid things. He had been in and out of schools, rehab clinics, and mental institutions. Eventually, he was able to finally say no and became sober at age 15. What a great remarkable story.
As soon as I finished, I went directly to the new book, and I had a difficult time trying to get into it. For now, I will keep the book and try again later.
